Includes 1892 edition of Fan; the Story of a Young Girl's Life, a novel written by Hudson under the pseudonym Henry Harford, and 1888 serial version of Hudson's book, Ralph Herne, extracted from the periodical Youth, both with holograph annotations made in preparation for new editions; and photocopies of Hudson's letters to Spencer F. Baird, Smithsonian Institution, and to P. L. Sclater, Zoological Society of London (with letter of transmittal from R. G. Wasson to G. M. Adams); together with correspondence of Carlton F. Wells about Hudson or the Hudson Collection, and an English translation of an essay about Hudson by Jorge Casares. The papers concern Hudson's writings, his observations about birds, nature, and people, his business and personal affairs, including those of his wife Emily, and various friends and fellow writers, including William Canton. Hudson's correspondents include William Canton, Mary Christie, Edward Garnett, his wife Emily Hudson, A. D. McCormick, E. A. Newton, Morley Roberts, and Ethel M. Williams. Wells's correspondents include G. M. Adams, R. G. Adams, J. A. D. Bridger, David Garnett, Edward Garnett, and Richard Garnett.
